Chloé Mendola is a Grammy® nominated cellist from France, based in San Francisco.  

Highly experienced in studio sessions and live performances, I have recorded, toured and performed with internationally renowned groups and artists such as Zhu, Halsey, George Lucas, Michael Bublé, Sigur Ros, 2Cellos, Esperanza Spalding, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Il Divo, Rufus Wainwright, John Adams, Laura Sullivan, Nikhil Seetharam, Simple Plan, Patrick Watson, Coeur de pirate, Homayoun Sakhi, Philippe Brach, Isabelle Boulay..

Over the years, I have recorded at the legendary Prairie Sun Recording Studios, 25th Street Recording, Decibelle Recording. I have played at the SkyWalker Ranch, Chase Center, Golden1 Center. You can ear me on numerous soundtracks for TV and film, including as principal cellist for the Agora Symphony in Netflix’s movie Brad’s Status starring Ben Stiller.

As a dedicated orchestra musician, I have been on stage with world-famous conductors such as Kent Nagano, Vasily Petrenko, Martin West, and John Adams. Currently a member of the Berkeley Symphony Orchestra, I have also performed with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra and am a regular substitute with various Bay Area Orchestras.

I am a founding member of Duo Érable, a cello and guitar duo with guitarist Pauline Gauthey, which has a mission of expanding the limits of traditional classical repertoire and reaching communities large and small in the Bay Area. Over the years, I have had the opportunity to perform with, and be mentored by internationally recognized cellists such as Emmanuelle Bertrand, Brian Manker, Jean Deplace, Philippe Muller, Anne Gastinel, Ralph Kirshbaum, Ronald Leonard, Yovan Markovitch, Johannes Moser, Roland Pidoux, Raphaël Pidoux, Fred Sherry, and Peter Wiley. 

Chloé has been the beneficiary of a cello loaned by the organization Talents & Violoncelles and made by luthier Patrick Robin. She currently plays on a cello made by Frank Ravatin, and generously lent by Quebec Patron Of The Arts Roger Dubois, of CANIMEX Inc. Chloé is also the recipient of numerous grants and awards including l’Association Française du Violoncelle, Lions Club International, Concours du Royaume, Lloyd Carr-Harris Scholar at McGill University, Osher Scholar at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. She was a finalist of the McGill Concerto Competition.

Born in France, her musical career started at the Saint-Etienne and Lyon Conservatories of Music, with mentors Marianne Gaiffe, Pascal Jemain and Augustin Lefebvre. Chloé holds a B.M. and a M.M. from the McGill Schulich School of Music in Montreal, where she graduated with “Outstanding Achievement in Cello”, under the mentorship of renowned cellists Matt Haimovitz and Brian Manker. She then obtained her Artist Diploma in Chamber Music at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, under the mentorship of Jennifer Culp. Chloé is an active teacher in the Bay Area and has her private studio.
